FAQ — Square Root Garden Co.

Question 1

How does the process work from start to finish?

Accepted Answer

It starts with a free on-site consultation — we come to your yard, walk the space, and talk through your goals. From there we put together a garden design and package recommendation. Once you're ready to move forward, we schedule the installation and sample soils. Once samples are received we start the process and complete within two visits. After that, we walk you through everything so you know exactly how to care for your new garden.

Question 2

Do I need any gardening experience?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. We work with complete beginners all the time. That’s why we created this company, we want you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the harvest.

Question 3

What areas do you serve?

Accepted Answer

We currently serve families throughout Hillsborough and Polk counties, including Plant City, Lakeland, Brandon, Valrico, Seffner, Dover, Mulberry, and Zephyrhills. Pasco County is coming soon. Not sure if we cover your area? Reach out and we'll let you know.

Question 4

How long does the consultation take?

Accepted Answer

Usually 30–45 minutes. We'll walk your yard, check sunlight and drainage, talk through what you want to grow, and answer any questions you have. There's no pressure and no commitment required.

Question 5

How much does a garden installation cost?

Accepted Answer

Depends on the combination you choose. Size, soil condition, and the package you choose all affect the final number. We give every family a free on-site consultation so you get an accurate price based on the pricing page. Check our Pricing page for a breakdown of costs.

Question 6

Is the consultation really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, completely free. We come to your yard, assess the space, and give you a written recommendation — no charge, no obligation. We'd rather earn your business by being helpful than by pressuring you into a decision.

Question 7

Do you offer payment plans?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! Connect with us today to see your options!

Question 8

How long does installation take?

Accepted Answer

After soil samples are received, most garden installations are completed in 1-2 days depending on size.

Question 9

What does site preparation involve?

Accepted Answer

Site prep typically means clearing the area, tilling the soil with a tractor, and amending it with compost and nutrients before planting. Good soil is the foundation of a productive garden — we don't skip this step.

Question 10

Do you install raised beds?

Accepted Answer

Raised bed gardens coming soon!

Question 11

What if my yard has poor soil or drainage issues?

Accepted Answer

That's exactly what the consultation is for. We assess drainage, soil quality, and sun exposure before recommending anything. Poor soil is fixable — we'll tell you what it takes and factor it into your plan.

Question 12

What can I grow in a Florida in-ground garden?

Accepted Answer

Quite a lot. Florida's warm climate means you can grow tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, beans, herbs, leafy greens, and more. The key is timing — we'll help you plan around growing seasons so you're always harvesting something.

Question 13

Do you offer ongoing maintenance?

Accepted Answer

Yes — ongoing maintenance is an optional add-on. We can come out regularly to weed, fertilize, replant, and keep your garden in top shape. It's a great option for busy families who want fresh food without the weekly upkeep. Ask about it during your consultation.

Question 14

How much time does it take to maintain a garden myself?

Accepted Answer

A well-designed in-ground garden typically takes 30–60 minutes per week to maintain — watering, light weeding, and harvesting. We'll set you up with a simple routine so it never feels overwhelming.

Question 15

What if something goes wrong after installation?

Accepted Answer

If you run into problems after installation, reach out and we'll help you troubleshoot. We want your garden to succeed, not just look good on day one.
